The Front of the House students were responsible for decorating their display table along with a signature drink (non-alcoholic) and garnish. In addition, the teams provided a fully composed plate of each dish to three judges. Each team had one hour to cook, prepare and plate tasting plates of an appetizer, entrée, and dessert to paid guests. Each team had three professional chef leaders, one for savory, one for sweet and one front-of-house director. This fundraising event features 18 students from the Academy of Culinary Arts in two teams for technical knowledge and skills competition in the Back of the House and Front of the House. Johns?! That's right St Johns Technical High School - Academy of Culinary Arts held their first ever restaurant wars! Whether you are going out to enjoy the evening on the water or coming in from the beach, Barbara Jeans will take care of you. Did you notice that I didnt say what kind? That's because they make a different kind from the juiciest fruits everyday, They are so good you must try them all! ![]() The sides and homestyle meals are some of the locals favorites but you mustn't forget the cobbler. And then of course their onion rings! Being a northerner it's tough to find a good ring, but here they are made to order, lightly battered and melt in your mouth. They are so good you wont be able to stop popping them in your mouth. The fresh fish bites, sounds silly but these are hand breaded made with the freshest local fish. The view is spectacular.Ī few other faves of mine are their lobster roll, stuffed with delicious lobster and a side of creamy coleslaw. With their whipped butter, its a feast on its own!Ī good day for me is after a day at the beach, stopping in to sit on the waterfront dock with a cool craft cocktail. It comes with their home made brown bread, both jalapeno and sweet fluffly corn bread and yes those big fat yeast rolls. Lets talk about the bread, I know most times its one of those things that if you are starving you will eat otherwise its a pass, but this bread is not your average bread basket. So my advice to you, if your hostess brings you down the hall to your left and seats you at the corner table in front of the open doorway looking at the wine fridge and stacked glasses, GET UP AND LEAVE.How can you go wrong with a light white fish seared with mildly spicy seasonings ,cooling creamy grits and topped off with a sausage sauce to sop up all the goodness. It was truly a disappointing end to what was a actually a really great day at the hotel. The restaurant was not full, we were not begging for a table, there is no reason to even have that table there because you are only giving your customer a bad experience. Am I being a brat? maybe, but we were trying to have a celebratory dinner and for me, at $500 for a meal (we come from the hospitality industry so we tip very generously) is a lot off money. I have never actually been so effected by my seating situation. My son got the Cinnabun dessert to go and we were out of there. We got a beet salad and avocado/tuna tostada (tuna app at $24 was quite pricey) for apps which were good and also the lamb spring roll. The fries were decent and the steak, thank goodness, was high quality. The Carrots were way over salted and also drenched and swimming in way too much sauce. The Chinese Broccoli which was drenched in a gross brown sauce, ruining the actual flavor of the vegetable. I got the chicken which was tasty yet raw at the bone. The family ordered the 'Thors Hammer Cut' steak at $180. Unfortunately the food did not make it better or 'worth' it. I wanted to move tables but my family felt that would be embarrassing (teenagers) so I 'dealt' with it. So yes, I spent my entire $500 meal watching the bussers wash and arrange glasses behind my daughters head, while also getting a cold draft up my legs from the open entry way in front of me. Corner booth where I had a server station directly on my left and my view was of a wall to the near right and the bussers station directly in front of me. As soon as we were seated I realized we had to have the absolute worst seat in the house. ![]() We were treating ourselves and our teenage children to a fancy, expensive, holiday meal. Made a reservation through the hotel Concierge for Sat. We were staying at Aviara for the weekend.
